Judge Espinoza was appointed to the Superior Court in 1997. He is currently the Supervising Judge of the Criminal Division of the Superior Court for the County of Los Angeles overseeing 287 courts and bench officers. Prior to his assignment as the Supervising Judge of the Criminal Courts, he served as the assistant Supervising Judge of the Criminal Division and prior to that he was the Assistant Supervising Judge in the Southeast District from 2004 to 2007. Prior to that, he was the Presiding Judge of the Municipal Court, Southeast District from 1995 to 1996.

Judge Epinoza has been recognized by the Court for his distinguished service in the MABA, Mexican American Bar Association; JCBA, Juvenile Court Bar Association; CJA, California Judges Association; and California Latino Judges Association. Judge Espinoza is the recipient of the following awards and commendations: MABA Benjamin Aranda Judicial Excellence Award, 2004; Special Recognition, Southeast District Bar Association, 2002; Los Angeles County District Attorney, Special Recognition, 2001; Judicial Excellence Award, Criminal Courts Bar Association, 2001; and Commissioner of the Year, Southeast District Bar Association, 1993. He is a Board member of the Mexican American Historical Foundation Board, the Hispanic Outreach Task Force Advisory Board, and the Cerritos College Foundation Board. Judge Espinoza received his undergraduate degree from Cerritos College and San Francisco State University. He received his Juris Doctorate from U.C.L.A. School of Law.
